Summit’s Medical Billing and Coding program is designed to launch careers in a wide variety of health care office settings. Students develop skills through classroom training and hands on practice in insurance billing and coding, managing healthcare records, and administrative front office responsibilities.

What Will I Do?
Some of your duties may include:
- Assigning codes* to each diagnosis and procedure for reimbursement by Medicare, Medicaid or other insurance programs that use the classification systems
- Patient and insurance billing
- Medical insurance coding and collections
- Accounts receivable and accounts payable
- Bookkeeping
- Medical office collections
- Using codes to bill patients and all responsible parties.
*You may encounter several coding systems in your work as a Medical Billing and Coding Assistant, including coding systems for emergency services, physician offices and long-term care.
