Optical Dispensing Technician Objectives:

At Summit, our goal is to provide students with the individual attention, skills, and training that will help them succeed in an eye care setting. We accomplish this by providing hands-on classroom training and instruction in areas that include assisting with basic eye exams, filling eyeglasses and contact lens prescriptions, and assisting patients in the selection of frames and contact lenses. With the support of knowledgeable, industry-experienced instructors, you can achieve your goal of completing the Optical Dispensing Technician program and can start an exciting career. (Upon completion of the program, you will be qualified to take the (ABO) American Opticianry Board Exam, and (NCLE) National Contact Lens Examiners Exam.

What Will I Do?

• Fabricating eyeglasses, meeting prescription specifications, and preparing work orders.
• Assisting patients in selecting frames by style and color.
• Maintain records of patient prescriptions, work orders, and payments.
• Recommend specific lenses and lens coatings to best fit your patient.
• Instructing patients how to wear and care for eyeglasses.
• Conducting basic eye exams.
• Fitting eyeglasses and lenses for people with eye problems.
• Assembling eyewear.
