PROGRAM OBJECTIVE:
The Computerized Office Administration course is designed to give the student the basic knowledge and skills necessary to work in an entry-level business office support position. Instruction is given in both lecture and "hands on" practical lab format using "stand alone" courses of instruction.

This course includes instruction in basic bookkeeping, transaction analysis, and source document recognition. Students will apply knowledge gained in basic accounting and transaction analysis to making entries in Quick Books along with an introduction to the basic operations of the program. Student will use projects and simulations to facilitate their knowledge and practice setting up companies and related accounts within Quick Books.

This course includes instruction in basic computer knowledge, capacities, internal and external components, basic computer theory and history. Students will also learn the basic operations of MS Windows including file creation, management and shortcuts. Instruction will also be provided in basic DOS, and DOS syntax using Hyper-Text Markup Language (HTML). Students will also learn about the Internet, its history, and evolution.

This course includes instruction in basic data entry as well as spreadsheet formatting. Students will learn simple to advanced formula writing in MS Excel. Instruction also includes creating forms, macros, and databases. Applications of student knowledge will extend to setting up inventory and payroll spreadsheets as projects and simulation exercises.

This course will introduce students to the basic functions of word processing using MS Word. Students will learn to create, edit, print, retrieve and modify documents. Instruction also includes techniques in document templates, proofing tools, headers and footers, using columns, tables and file management operations. Students will also become familiar with importing and exporting data and objects, mail merge operations and advanced formatting techniques.

This course includes instruction in business communications with an emphasis on syntax, basis grammar, outlining, and oral communications. Students will learn how to create graphic presentations using MS PowerPoint. Instruction will be provided in basic graphics, animation, and presentation outlining. Students will also learn office procedures and protocols, including filing systems and interoffice communications.

This course will introduce students to data management using MS Access as a database management program. Students will learn basic database theory and relational database creation and reporting. More advanced instruction will cover creating switchboards, and customizing databases, formula writing, modules, and macros.

This course provides instruction in the art of getting a job. Students will be introduced to resume preparation, job search strategies, interview techniques, goal setting, dress for success and career development techniques. The course is designed to provide the student with successful strategies and techniques for finding employment opportunities and successfully negotiating the resume, interview and negotiation of employment processes. The course will also provide the student opportunities to do targeted outside job searches and interviews during the term of instruction.
