The Financial-Aid Process: Knowing Codes

For starters, you may wonder what various identification numbers are about. For example, an OPE ID is defined as: an identification number used by the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Postsecondary Education (OPE) to identify schools that have Program Participation Agreements (PPA) so that its students are eligible to participate in Federal Student Financial Assistance programs under Title IV regulations. This is a 6-digit number followed by a 2-digit suffix used to identify branches, additional locations, and other entities that are part of the eligible institution. Summit Career College has a Program Participation Agreement with the US Department of Education for eligible students to receive Pell Grants and other federal aid.

Federal School Code for Summit Career College: 031081

Government data websites use what is called an “OPE ID” number, but this same 6-digit number is also called a Federal School Code that may be verified by going to the government website, www.FAFSA.gov. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the form used by virtually all US colleges, including Summit Career College. The official FAFSA is at www.FAFSA.gov – not at a .com Web site. If you go to a .com site, you will probably be asked to pay to submit the FAFSA. Remember, the first F in "FAFSA" stands for "free" – so use the official government site to submit your application. If you plan to file your FAFSA application for Federal Student Aid, the school code for Summit Career College is 031081. Please verify this code before using it with your FAFSA application.

Federal Student Aid is an office of the US Department of Education, which provides money for college to eligible students. To meet minimum eligibility requirements you will need to have a valid Social Security number and high school diploma or GED certificate.

Summit Career College is authorized to administer Federal, Title IV grants and loans to qualified students, and offers financial aid programs for many of our vocational classes. Title IV funds come in the form of either Grants (money that you do not have to pay back) or Loans (money that you have to pay back to a lender after your training program ends). Federal Financial Aid assistance programs come in many shapes and sizes. Students who require financial aid can seek advice from the college's career counselors. At any time, you are welcome to contact one of our career counselors and they will gladly help you determine whether you qualify for financial assistance.
